Otoplasty (ear pinning) surgery in Calgary
Medications will be administered for your comfort during the ear pinning (otoplasty) surgery that Dr. Hamilton will perform. The options will include local, intravenous sedation or general anesthesia. Dr. Hamilton will recommend the best choice for you.
Dr. Hamilton will correct protruding ears by surgically creating or increasing the fold just inside the rim of the ear. Next, he will reduce enlarged cartilage in the largest and deepest hollow of the external ear. Incisions for ear pinning surgery are generally made at the back of the ear. When incisions are necessary on the front of the ear, Dr. Hamilton is careful to make them within its folds in order to hide them. The use of internal, non-removable sutures helps to create the newly-shaped cartilage and secure it in place.
He will then close the incision, using external stitches. Dr. Hamilton's surgical experience and knowledge of facial structure will make certain that other facial structures are not distorted, but remain natural, thus avoiding a noticeabsle pinned look.
Dr. Hamilton is Chief, Division of Plastic Surgery at Peter Lougheed Hospital in Calgary, and is Assistant Professor (Clinical) Division of Plastic Surgery at the University of Calgary Medical School. He sits on the Surgical Executive Committee, Peter Lougheed Hospital, Calgary, Alberta, and is also Director of the Hand Clinic at Peter Lougheed Hospital.
When Dr. Hamilton performs ear pinning surgery at the accredited hospital in Calgary, the results are almost instantaneous, in cases of protruding ears. Because the ears will remain much closer to the head, any scars will be hidden, either behind the ear or in the natural creases of the ear.
